Dundee Launch Iteer, Sandra Junele, vying for YBI Awards

Sandra Junele, Launch It Dundee alumna and founder of sustainable textile art business, Junele, is one of the nine finalists shortlisted for the upcoming Youth Business International Awards. She is vying for a chance to win a $2000 prize grant for the Climate Entrepreneurship category and a $10,000 prize for the Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year title.

Youth Business International’s Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards will celebrate innovative and inspiring young entrepreneurs who are leading the way in impact business, developing solutions to today’s social, climate and sustainability problems.

Nine finalists have been selected by a judging panel at a pitch day at the Youth Business International Bootcamp recently held at Launch It Neasden, for the following categories:

  • Climate Entrepreneurship Award. Entrepreneurs leading a business with the primary goal of combatting climate change and its associated challenges, working in areas such as energy efficiency, carbon capture, waste management, sustainable agriculture, water resource management, climate adaptation, etc.

  • Social Entrepreneurship Award. Entrepreneurs leading a business with the primary goal of addressing and solving societal challenges, e.g. poverty, inequality, education, and healthcare.

  • Sustainable Entrepreneurship Award. Entrepreneurs leading a business which integrates economic, social and environmental considerations into its core operations and decision-making.

Sandra, who just very recently completed the two-year incubation support programme at Launch It Dundee, shared: "Meeting with young entrepreneurs from all over the globe and making new friends at the YBI Bootcamp was an invaluable experience. I realised that, despite our diverse backgrounds, we all share more or less the same concerns and challenges in our entrepreneurial journeys. This experience has reaffirmed that I am on the right path, and I am eager to continue this journey, armed with new knowledge and connections."

The three category winners will be decided by a public vote which is open from 8th July to 16th August. Voters can vote for one nominee per category. The winners, along with the overall winner, will be announced at the Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in October.

We wish Sandra and all the finalists the very best throughout this experience and thank you to YBI for partnering with us in delivering impactful support programmes for young founders worldwide such as this! Cast your vote now by clicking here now!
