The Pitch Off, our very first pitching competition for young founders at Angel Yard, was a smashing success and the grand winner of £2500 in start-up funding has been named last 06 Jun: Aaliyah, founder of 100% natural and vegan health and wellness supplements company, Alive On-Go!
This pioneering programme designed to support local, young entrepreneurs to further grow their businesses, was made possible through the generous support of tier 1 civil engineering company, Taylor Woodrow, along with its supply chain partners, Cognition Land + Water, Templec and IJN Security. Special thanks as well to Enfield Council, London Business School, Meridian Water, and our panel of judges for the support, and to the members of the Edmonton community who celebrated with us at the awarding event.
On her experience joining The Pitch Off, Aaliyah shared: It was such a great experience being part of The Pitch Off. It was one of my first experiences pitching Alive On-Go and I have learnt so much from the competition. Running a business on your own without the right capital is hard, but the competition has given me the confidence I needed to go forward for even more investment."
Taylor Woodrow Social Value & Community Stakeholder Manager, Josh Spavins, shared: “Our initiative with Launch It has been an uplifting success for all involved. They made the process more straightforward than I could have hoped. Our vision for an exciting community investment project was brought to life by their efforts and culminated in an evening that connected large contractors together with microbusiness owners. Seeing the finalists pitch for the prize and Aaliyah’s reaction brought home why we wanted to link up in the first place — to have a genuine impact on young peoples’ prospect.”
Congratulations as well to all the finalists: Tara of The Black Art Social, Tahira of YSDNDYart, Joycelyn of Noiir Squared London and Dionne of Curly Kinky Coily. We hope this experience gave these talented female founders not only the financial boost but the inspiration and skills to represent their start-ups more confidently!
